The school settlement finds the reason of his form in the insertion into the tissue of the peri-urban area of Cascina.
To create a condition of urbanity we tried to constitute a space that, while maintaining its wide and characteristic openness and horizontality, was both defined and protected.
The choice was to favor two main axes of perception: one directed towards the chain of Pisan mountains and the other, perpendicular to it, which opens onto the countryside from east to west.
With the goal of making single and continuous the school settlement, the settlement plan is based on a plate: this type has allowed to double, in correspondence with the break of respect of the power line, the usable surface.
In the “under-plate” plan are placed all the parking lots that are well covered and always “hidden” from view of this batch of agriculture; in addition to parking, the plate houses inside the technical areas and the connecting path between the two blocs built (school and canteen-gym).
Above, the plate will appear as a large area of relational space: will be a true public square, a node sorting and distribution function during school hours, it turns to life even after the bell. The library is symbolically located in a high position, at the end of a gentle flight of steps to constitute the culmination of an ideal location for training and knowledge.
